Laika is built by Off Leash Behavior LLC. We believe your pet’s health data is yours. We don’t sell it, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we don’t use it to train AI models outside of your account.

What We Collect

When you use Laika, we collect the following information to provide and improve the app:

• Account information: Email address, name, and authentication credentials (including Apple ID or Google account if you use social sign-in).

• Pet health data: Pet profile (name, breed, age, weight), medications, vaccinations, vet visit history, journal entries, care logs, health check-in responses, and uploaded medical records. You provide all of this voluntarily.

• Chat messages: Conversations with Laika are stored to provide personalized responses and maintain conversation history. Extracted memories (key facts Laika learns from conversations) are stored separately so Laika can remember context across sessions.

• Location data: When you use emergency features, lost dog alerts, or weather-based recommendations, we request your location. It is used only for that feature, to find nearby vets, show where a lost dog was last seen, or check local conditions. We do not track your location in the background.

• Photos and files: Pet photos, scanned documents and medical records, and photos you take to identify foods or plants. These are stored securely in your account.

• Usage data: How you use the app, such as the screens you view, the features you use, and chat message counts for plan limits. We use this, through PostHog, only to improve Laika. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

• Crash reports: If the app crashes, anonymous diagnostic data may be sent via Sentry to help us fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity.

Information about your pet is pet health data, not human health data, so HIPAA does not apply. We still treat it as sensitive and protect it as described in this policy.

How We Use Your Data

• Provide personalized AI responses about your pet’s health and care, grounded in your pet’s actual records.

• Store and organize your pet’s medical history, medications, and vaccination records.

• Generate care cards, vet prep summaries, and shareable health documents.

• Send emergency information to veterinary clinics when you use the triage feature.

• Process subscription payments through the Apple App Store or Google Play, managed with RevenueCat.

• Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset) via Resend.

AI and Your Data

Laika uses Claude (by Anthropic) to power its AI chat and document processing features. When you chat with Laika:

• Your pet’s profile, medications, vaccinations, recent journal entries, and extracted memories are sent to Claude as context for each conversation.

• Your chat messages are sent to Claude to generate responses.

• Anthropic does not use your data to train its models. Anthropic may keep API data for a limited time under its own data retention policy, and then deletes it.

• Memory extraction (key facts Laika remembers) is processed by a separate, smaller AI model and stored in your account. You can view and delete any memory at any time in Settings.

Third-Party Services

Laika uses the following services to operate:

• Supabase: Database and authentication. Your data is stored in Supabase’s cloud infrastructure with row-level security (each user can only access their own data).

• Anthropic (Claude): AI chat and document processing. Your data is not used to train AI models.

• RevenueCat: Manages subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your payment card details.

• Resend: Transactional email delivery.

• Sentry: Anonymous crash reporting.

• PostHog: Product analytics, so we can see which features help and fix what doesn’t.

• Google Maps: Maps, directions, and nearby vet search when you use location features.

• Apple / Google: Social sign-in authentication (if you choose to use it).

We do not share your data with any other third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.

Cookies: the Laika app does not use cookies. The Laika website uses only the essential cookies it needs to work. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Data Storage and Security

• All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption in transit).

• Data at rest is stored in Supabase’s managed PostgreSQL database with encryption.

• Row-level security ensures users can only access their own data.

• Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage.

• Uploaded files (medical records, photos) are stored in Supabase Storage with signed URLs that expire.

Your Rights

You can:

• View your data: Everything Laika knows about your pet is visible in the app (Health tab, chat history, memories in Settings).

• Delete memories: Swipe to delete any memory Laika has extracted, in Settings > Laika’s Memory.

• Delete conversations: Remove any chat conversation from your history.

• Delete your account: You can delete your account and all associated data from Settings within the app, or by contacting us at [email protected]. We will delete all your data, including pet profiles, medical records, chat history, and memories, within 30 days.

• Export your data: Contact us at [email protected] to request a copy of all data associated with your account.

Children’s Privacy

Laika is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app and updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Laika after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
